Amy Lopez

Volunteer & Stewardship Coordinator for Jill's House

Our February program highlights the work of a Christian non-profit called Jill's House. This organization provides families raising children with intellectual disabilities with short-term overnight respite care in the D.C. metro area and around the country. Parents are regularly given 24 to 48 hours to rest and re-charge while their children are engaged through fun activities, tailored to their interests and abilities.

Respite care is proven to reduce stress after the first night stay and helps improve the whole family's physical, emotional, and mental health.

Jill's House also provides regular parent support group meetings and events for the typical siblings, along with weekend retreats for the whole family.

The goal for the program is to grow volunteer and donor programs with an atmosphere of generosity and compassion as individuals and groups share their gifts of time, talent, and treasure.
