Luncheon Program

Philomela

A Women's Chamber Ensemble

Voices of Women, Voices of Hope

This beautifully talented women's Chamber Ensemble was founded in 1976 in Washington, D.C.  They are a vocal ensemble of 12 - 16 singers which is known for its unique, thematic programming focusing on stories, poetry and music by and about extraordinary women. Philomela performs under the direction of the remarkable Dr. Kathy Kessler Price, Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

The ensemble's name is inspired by the Greek myth of a princess transformed into a nightingale.

This presentation blends together gorgeous musical harmonies and the history of woman's suffrage, representing our difficult and decades-long struggle to secure the right to vote.

Philomela will be accomanied by a pianist and a seemlesly integrated slide presentation originally created to honor the 100th anniversary of the signing of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
